Stitch Blue Is the Coolest Colour Trend Right Now — Here’s How to Work It Into Your Home

Anticipation for the upcoming Lilo and Stitch movie has many brimming with nostalgia for the small blue creature, with Google searches for ‘lilac blue’ up 38% in the past three months and searches for ‘denim blue’ up by 56%.
Charlotte Ford, Senior Marketing Director at innovative interior brand Ruggable, has given some insight on the trending colourway and how you can incorporate it into the home.
“Lilac blue was popular over the 1990s and early 2000s. However, since neutrals and greys came into fashion within the interior space, their popularity dipped. However, lilac blue is actually a great colour to work with in the home, especially when used correctly and paired with the right colour palette. Nostalgia has such a huge influence on trends, so with this new adaptation of the popular Disney movie, I expect shades of lilac blue and denim blue to make a comeback into homes as a subtle nod to Stitch.”
How to incorporate Stitch Blue in your interiors
Lilac blue is perfect for a baby’s nursery

“Lilac is renowned for evoking feelings of calm and tranquillity, making it perfect for a baby’s nursery as it will help them to feel restful and cosy during nap time. Not only this, but lilac blue is a great gender neutral colour, so even if you’re not finding out the gender or you want to get started on their nursery a little earlier, lilac blue is a great starting point.”
“If you would prefer to paint the walls of your baby’s nursery a more neutral shade like beige or sage green, you can incorporate lilac blue in other ways, such as soft furnishings like baby blankets and muslins, or with a soft lilac rug that can stay with them from being a baby until childhood and beyond, thanks to its versatility.”
Denim blue pairs well with pink for a clashing maximalist style

“Using denim blue requires using the right colour palette to go alongside it. For example, pairing denim blue with rose pink can brighten up the room and give it a high-end, elegant feel.
To achieve this look in the home, you don’t have to opt for painting the wall in these colours, you could choose a neutral base and add in pops of denim blue and rose pink through furniture and home accessories. Think a plush rose pink armchair or a denim blue rug. This way, you can make these the centrepieces and build out the rest of the room from there.”
“On the other hand, pairing denim blue with hot pink is a colour clash made in heaven, and is great for livening up spaces like playrooms for children, or living rooms if you want to create a vibrant space.

To create a bold colour clash in your home, adorn your walls with vibrant pink paint or wallpaper, then complement it with denim blue furnishings in the form of soft fabrics and furnishings like rugs, cushions, and throws. Adding texture into the mix here will help the pink pop, too, like denim-textured cushions to really hone in on the nostalgic denim blue colourway or shaggy rugs that add even more atmosphere to your space.”
Use lilac blue to colour drench your bedroom
“Lilac blue bedrooms used to be extremely popular, especially in the early 2000’s – and for good reason. Lilac blue is a relaxing shade and makes the perfect environment for sleeping. I recommend colour drenching with lilac blue to create an atmosphere that can help you drift off peacefully. To do this, paint everything from your ceiling down to your skirting boards the same lilac blue shade, then offset it with calming hues of beige and sage green in the form of soft bed linen and pillows for the ultimate night’s sleep.”
