Run Smarter: The Exercise Tracker Taking Fitness to the Next Level
Share
ENGO, the pioneer in lightweight augmented eyewear for sports, launches the ‘Heart Rate Zone’ (HR Zone) widget to display key data related to activity intensity directly in the athlete’s field of vision.
Thanks to an intuitive display, athletes can instantly identify their effort zone (from Z1 to Z5), avoiding unnecessary distractions such as checking a watch in order to optimise both mental and physical performance. Compatible with Garmin (and soon Apple Watch), ENGO further facilitates effort adjustment during exercise by minimising information overload and reducing the need to take your eyes off the road.
Reducing the Mental Load of Performance Monitoring
For endurance athletes, the constant habit of checking their watch can create a disruptive cycle: looking down, processing data, and adjusting effort repeatedly causes them to lose focus. This ‘task switching’ drains mental energy, triggers micro-spikes of adrenaline, and breaks the valuable state of flow when running feels effortless. This cognitive burden can reduce mental performance by up to 40% during a training session and significantly impacts perceived effort, making everything harder at times when it matters most.

The new Heart Rate Zone (HR Zone) widget integrated into the ENGO smart glasses helps free runners from this watch-checking cycle. Each training zone is clearly displayed in the field of vision, with a dynamic cursor showing exactly where the current heart rate falls within zones which have been personalised by the user.
Eric Marcellin-Dibon, Founder of ENGO: “Our mission with ENGO and lightweight augmented reality is to deliver essential information that enhances the athlete’s experience and improves performance. The Heart Rate Zone (HR Zone) widget perfectly illustrates this philosophy by leveraging the brain’s natural ability to interpret visual signals instantly and much faster than text. As a result, effort intensity adjustment becomes almost instinctive and requires very little mental effort. Athletes can maintain their focus on their surroundings and technique, preserving that precious state of flow during a workout.”
Availability
The widget is compatible with Garmin watches (and soon Apple Watch). No complex setup is required: heart rate data is automatically synced and displayed in the glasses at the start of the session.
With this system, the user can:
● Identify their effort zone at a glance (from Z1 to Z5)
● Avoid heart rate drift, which can sometimes be hard to detect
● Optimise training intensity, whether in endurance, tempo, or high-intensity workouts
A Smarter Heads-Up Display
This new feature aligns with ENGO Eyewear’s mission: to make data useful, accessible, and actionable in real time. Thanks to ActiveLook® technology, athletes benefit from real-time access to key data such as speed, altitude, and distance covered directly within their field of vision without compromising safety or enjoyment.

Weighing only 36g, offering 12 hours of battery life, and providing exceptional readability of essential data such as speed, heart rate, or distance travelled directly in the user’s field of vision, these glasses allow runners to stay focused on their route. They eliminate the need to check a watch or smartphone, thereby enhancing safety and the smoothness of the run.
