Experts share dangers of three airplane TikTok trends

TikTok is full of great travel hacks, including tips around how to save money on flights, how to save space packing for a long weekend away, and how to get a flight upgrade.
However, some potentially dangerous trends are circulating social media. TikTokers have been known to stand up in the aisle during turbulence, tamper with safety equipment, and attempt to open emergency exits.
Experts at multi-centre holiday specialists, eShores, share their insight into three of the most dangerous TikTok trends:
1. Overhead Bin Challenges:
One social media challenge involves passengers attempting to fit themselves inside of the overhead storage bins. Apart from the obvious safety concerns regarding confined spaces and potential falls, engaging in such behaviour can also disrupt the boarding process and cause delays. Furthermore, it can obstruct access to emergency equipment stored in overhead bins, which may be needed in the event of an emergency.

2. Seat Switch Challenges:
Passengers have been known to film themselves attempting to switch seats with other passengers mid-flight as part of a challenge or prank. This can cause confusion among the flight crew and disrupt the seating arrangements, which are often planned for safety and balance reasons.
3. Flight attendant call button prank:
This prank involves using the call button to attract the attention of the flight attendant when you don’t need anything. This could take the flight attendant’s attention away from someone who needs help and could be stopping them from doing their duties onboard.
If the pilot believes you are putting yourself or other passengers in danger, they have the right to remove you from the flight. This could result in being added to the no-fly list.
