Places in West Yorkshire to Visit on a Day Trip

You don’t need to go far to enjoy a fantastic day out. West Yorkshire is home to opportunities for all kinds of day getaways, so you can be confident of experiencing something both new and satisfying.
Here are a few suggestions
Leeds
The biggest city in West Yorkshire is a great place to spend a day if you’re used to a slightly quieter everyday lifestyle. You can enjoy many experiences here, from a day spent shopping in its gorgeous Victorian shopping arcades, to sampling its many restaurants. You can take on a thrilling challenge in one of the city’s popular escape rooms.
Leeds Art Gallery is stuffed to the gills with work by incredible modern artists, while choice museums include the Royal Armories and Leeds Industrial Museum.
Wakefield
For a diverse city experience that’s a little less crowded than Leeds, you could instead take one of the trains to Wakefield, and make your way to Xscape, a comprehensive hub for family-friendly activities including snowboarding, free-falling experiences, bowling, laser tag and a cinema. It’s also in Wakefield that you’ll find Yorkshire Sculpture Park, a gorgeous open-air setting with room for kids to run around that is populated by an incredible variety of weird and wonderful art pieces.
Yorkshire Dales National Park
If you’re looking for a full-on day in the great outdoors, then visiting the Dales is a no-brainer. Marvel at the natural beauty of waterfalls and gorges at Ingleton and Gordale Scar, explore historic Ripley Castle or see the sights of the area on the heritage Wensleydale Railway.
Walking, either gently between attractions or a longer, more dedicated trail around the valleys, is most common but you could also bring or rent mountain bikes to explore with a little more adrenaline.
Ilkley
The picturesque town of Ilkley makes for a charming day trip. You can explore its Manor House, one of the oldest buildings in the county which plays host to a variety of exhibitions or visit the site of an old Roman fort.
Film fans will enjoy the town’s cinema, with its plush and comfortable living-room-style armchairs and sofas that’ll make you feel like you’re in a home cinema as you enjoy a slate of new releases, documentaries, and arthouse fare.
Haworth
Those keen to explore a quaint village setting will love Haworth, known for being the home of the Brontë sisters. Here you’ll find a variety of charming independent shops, including the irresistible Mrs. Beighton’s Sweet Shop, plus fascinating micro-galleries and an opportunity to see through the veil as you’re led on a ghost tour!
