Small Tweak, Big Demand: The ‘Lip Flip’ Trend Goes Mainstream
Share
Search interest in the cosmetic Lip Flip has surged in the UK, with new data showing the treatment is no longer a niche TikTok trend but a mainstream beauty consideration.
According to search data analysed by Fresha, ‘Lip Flip’ attracted 361,000 searches in the past month alone, up 6% month-on-month, with a clear upward trajectory over the past five years. What began as a viral aesthetic hack has evolved into a consistent, year-round demand — particularly during colder months when people look for subtle lip enhancement without committing to filler.
The Lip Flip, which uses Botox to relax the muscle above the upper lip so it gently rolls outward, has gained popularity as a “natural-looking” alternative to volume-heavy treatments. But experts warn that the simplicity of the procedure can be misleading.
Danielle Louise, Beauty Specialist on Fresha, says:
“The Lip Flip is often positioned as a softer, safer option than filler, but it’s frequently misunderstood. It doesn’t add volume — it alters muscle movement. If it’s done incorrectly, or stacked with filler without proper assessment, it can affect how your lips move, how you speak, and even how your smile sits.”
She adds that the steady rise in searches suggests people are actively researching the treatment rather than impulsively booking it.
“We’re seeing more clients come in asking informed questions, which is a good thing. But higher demand also means people need to be more careful about who they trust. Botox around the mouth is highly technical.”
Lip treatments gaining momentum this winter
Fresha, the global beauty and wellness booking platform, reports continued interest in lip-focused treatments during the winter months, including:

- Lip filler – still the most commonly requested enhancement, especially ahead of party season
- Lip Flip – now attracting over 360,000 searches a month, with sustained growth rather than one-off viral spikes
- Lip blushing – a semi-permanent tint treatment trending heavily on social platforms
- Lip hydration facials – designed to combat dryness, cracking and loss of definition caused by cold weather
Danielle Louise, Beauty Specialist on Fresha, explains:
“Cold air, indoor heating and dehydration all affect the lips faster than people realise. That’s why we always recommend treating lip health and lip aesthetics as the same conversation, not separate ones.”
How to prep your lips safely this season
For anyone considering a Lip Flip or similar treatment, Danielle Louise recommends:
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine and spicy food for 24 hours before injections
- Don’t combine filler and flip treatments without professional consultation
- Use daily hydrating lip masks or oils to maintain skin integrity
- Book at least two weeks before a major event to allow swelling or stiffness to settle
