Which UK supermarket leads in affordable fashion?

A new study has revealed which supermarkets have the most affordable fashion brand, with George at Asda coming out on top for offering the best value across men’s women’s, and children’s wear.

Largely driven by the ongoing cost of living crisis, supermarket own clothing brands have soared in popularity in recent years as consumers rethink their spending habits.

Supermarkets are recognised for offering budget-friendly alternatives to popular and more expensive clothing brands. However, opting for supermarket fashion doesn’t mean sacrificing quality, as they typically share the same materials as high street names. 

To help shoppers make more informed choices and save on wardrobe costs, the retail experts at Wethrift have compiled the Affordable Supermarket Fashion Index – a comprehensive report to finding the most budget-friendly supermarket clothing items. 

The report revealed that George at Asda leads the way as the most affordable supermarket clothing line overall, with an average cost of £61.25 per person for a full outfit.

To determine the average cost of a full outfit, the research examined the top five most popular items across dresses, jumpers, T-shirts, jeans, and coats. 

The analysis compared the average price of the top five most popular accessory items across various categories, including bags, hats, scarves, belts, and shoes, to calculate an overall average.

The research revealed the average cost of a T-shirt from George at Asda is £8.30 for women, £10.20 for men, £7.45 for girls, and £3.55 for boys.

The average price of a pair of jeans averaged £17 for women, £17.80 for men, £5.40 for girls, and £9.60 for boys. 

The average price of a coat was revealed to be £33.60 for women, £34.40 for men, £18.80 for girls, and £14.20 for boys. 

Sainsbury’s own brand TU Clothing claims second place, with a full outfit setting shoppers back an average of £66.01 per person.

Following closely in third place is Morrison’s Nutmeg, where a full outfit costs an average of £66.63 per person.

Tesco’s clothing brand F&F ranks fourth overall, with the price of an outfit averaging £82.98 per person.

Lastly, it may come as no surprise that Marks & Spencer’s M&S Collection ranks as the most expensive supermarket clothing brand, with an outfit costing an average of £115.65 per person.
