Whether you’re aiming for eerie or enchanting, TikTok is the go-to place for inspiration this year, with over 1.2 million videos for #halloweenmakeup. But which looks are set to be the most popular this year?
Keen to find out, Digital PR Agency analysed the number of videos under hashtags for popular Halloween makeup trends in 2024 to determine the hottest spooky season looks this year, according to TikTok.

Though butterfly face paint was a childhood Halloween classic, butterfly makeup is having a modern resurgence in 2024. On TikTok, #butterflymakeup has a huge 43,500 videos, with inspiration ranging from butterfly-inspired ethereal glitter looks to bold wing graphic liners.
Butterfly looks have even been seen on the main stage this year, with Chappell Roan bringing her winged costume to life with dramatic glitter eye-makeup and antenna brows.
With Google searches for ‘butterfly Halloween makeup’ up more than 5000% over the past 30 days, there is no doubt that we will be seeing butterfly-inspired looks everywhere from parties to FYPs this spooky season.
Fairy makeup – 33,500 videos

Ranking second most popular according to TikTok is fairy makeup. This favourite Halloween look is ethereal and magical; with #fairymakeup totalling 33,500 videos on the platform.
Steering away from horror and gore, fairy makeup will bring us looks all about softness, dreaminess, and whimsy this Halloween. It’s all about dewy skin, beautiful blush, and soft glitter.
Even celebs have been embracing the aesthetic this year, with the MET Gala’s “Garden of Time” theme bringing us fairycore looks from attendees such as Karol G and Ariana Grande.

Ranking next in the study, as the fifth most popular on TikTok, is zombie makeup. TikTok agrees that it’s a classic for a reason; there are 24,400 videos under #zombiemakeup on the platform.
Using the coolest contour you own, or a grey eyeshadow, to hollow out your face and create that dead look, plus using your favourite red lip to add as much blood as your heart desires, zombie makeup is perfect inspiration for a last minute scary look.
