Turn Your Boring Bedroom To A Boujee Boudoir

Share

The bedroom is known for being the sanctuary of the home, reserved for rest and relaxation, however last month saw UK Google searches for ‘bedroom ideas’ reach  76k¹  illustrating Brits’ desire to give their bedroom sanctuaries some TLC.

Turning a bedroom into a luxurious boudoir can be achieved more easily than most people think and can deliver when it comes to both relaxation and romance. This aesthetic is achieved through rich or romantic colours, mood lighting and an abundance of texture amongst other things, and for those with the space, the addition of a loveseat or Chaise Longue can really cement the transformation to boudoir.

With romance in the air, Victoria Foster, an interior stylist at ScS has shared her thoughts on how to nail this cosy-romantic aesthetic and elevate a humble bedroom into a luxurious boudoir.

  1. Create a TV-free space

“The bedroom should be a space reserved for unwinding and relaxing, that means limiting distractions. The TV is a great source of entertainment, however, it provides too much stimulation and will prohibit the relaxing nature required in a boudoir. Instead, make your bedroom a TV-free sanctuary (entirely tech-free if you can) where you can read a book, spend quality time with your partner or simply be with your thoughts.”

  1. Incorporate a cosy seating area

“If you are fortunate enough to have the space, the most luxurious transformation into a boudoir is through creating a seating area zone. Whether it’s a large loveseat, snuggle chair or a pair of armchairs, this additional furniture gives the room a premium, hotel-like aesthetic and provides the perfect place to unwind before it’s time to go to bed.”

  1. Choose an accent chair in plush fabric

“Incorporating plush fabrics, provides warmth and comfort, and an accent armchair is a great way to introduce a rich plush fabric to the space. Mixing and matching tactile, soft fabrics will keep your sense of touch happy and aid in winding down at the end of the day.”

  1. Play with a rich or romantic colour scheme

“Colour drenching, whereby you paint everything in a room the same shade from the walls to the ceilings and woodwork, can work famously well in a boudoir setting. Typical colour schemes usually embody rich, dark colours and textures, such as deep reds and animal prints but if you’re not brave enough to commit to full colour drenching a dark sultry shade, try incorporating the aesthetic through soft furnishings, rugs and a plush headboard.

“If a dark colour scheme is not something your space will allow for, leaning into a more romantic and lighter pastel colour palette can also work when creating a boudoir at home. ”

  1. Remove clutter from sight

“A really simple way to create a cosy boudoir that is dedicated to providing a relaxing escape is to ensure there are no visible distractions of clutter that will bring you back to the reality of a cleaning to-do list. Clever and hidden storage solutions are essential to creating a boudoir that is easy on the eye.”

  1. Incorporate an abundance of texture

“Comfort is key to creating a relaxing environment and if a boudoir should be anything, it should be the epitome of comfort. Bedrooms are naturally places filled with lots of tactile soft fabrics like blankets, throws and cushions to sink into, but velvets, silks and faux furs help elevate a bedroom to a boudoir.”

  1. Set the mood with strategic lighting

“An impactful difference you can make to a home is through using lighting. Harsh overhead lighting or cold-toned lighting can strain your eyes and make it difficult to wind down and relax. Instead, mix the heights of your lighting with floor and table lamps and choose bulbs that have a soft golden hue.

“Building on from lighting would be the inclusion of scented candles to create a truly romantic boudoir atmosphere, appealing to the senses of scent and sight. Just make sure you pick a scent that is appealing to you, but not overwhelming in the space that you have.”
