Speaking exclusively with the UK’s number one vitamin company, Vitabiotics, nutritionist Rachael Sacerdoti says, “When it comes to supporting a healthy pregnancy during winter, the focus should be on nutrient-rich foods that not only nourish the mother but also help support the baby’s development.”

Mango – Google searches +15% YoY

Mango is a powerhouse of vitamin C, which supports the immune system, especially important during the colder months. It’s also rich in beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A, essential for supporting vision and skin health.

Grapes – Google searches +10% YoY

Grapes are a great source of antioxidants and hydration, providing resveratrol, as well as small amounts of folate, and fibre. Fibre intake  may help digestion, something that can be a challenge during pregnancy.”

Sweet Potatoes – Google searches +11% YoY

Sweet potatoes are one of my favourites for pregnancy. Packed with beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A. Plus, they’re a comforting, versatile food in the winter, ideal for hearty, warming meals.

Pomegranate – Google searches +3% YoY

Pomegranate is a superfood for pregnancy, loaded with antioxidants, folate, which contributes to blood formation and vitamin K, which supports bone health.

Coconut water – Google searches +8% YoY

Coconut water is nature’s electrolyte drink, helping to keep you hydrated. It’s particularly helpful if morning sickness has been an issue.

Pineapple – Google searches +5% YoY

“Eating pineapple. in moderation is a delicious way to satisfy sweet cravings while benefiting from its vitamin C content.”

Rice – Google searches +11% YoY

Rice is a fantastic carbohydrate source, providing energy and is gentle on the stomach. Opt for red rice, black rice or wild rice when possible for added fibre, antioxidants and nutrients, especially if digestion is sluggish.

Melon – Google searches +8% YoY

Lastly, melon offers a hydrating and refreshing source of vitamins A and C. While it’s more of a summer fruit, it can still be enjoyed in the winter as a light snack to boost hydration and help support the  skin.

Eating a variety of these foods ensures you’re getting a mix of essential nutrients and minerals to support both you and your baby through the winter months. A balanced diet, alongside plenty of hydration, is key to staying strong, energised, and healthy during pregnancy.
