Low Maintenance Hairstyles Are a Priority – Here Are Some Simple Yet Chic Styles for Your Next Appointment

A celebrity stylist has revealed the ultimate low maintenance haircuts, as new research has revealed this is the most important hair consideration for Brits.

study of 2,000 UK adults, conducted by leading appliances and hair tools brand Gtech, has delved into the hair habits and woes of the nation.

The research found that not only do over half of the nation (55%) spend less than 10 minutes on their hair each day, but the most common consideration for Brits when choosing a hairstyle or cut is whether it is low maintenance (35%).

This is closely followed by hair type and texture (31%) and the hairstyle’s level of practicality (23%). Rounding out the top five most important factors are ace shape and features (21%) and the cost of the cut (15%).

It’s perhaps no surprise that low effort styles are so popular, as the study also revealed that a quarter of the nation dislikes doing their hair altogether (25%). Among those who feel this way, their hair itself (47%), the time they have available to spend on their hair (37%), and their confidence in their ability to do hair (34%) were cited as the main reasons why.

To help the nation find a look that works for them, celebrity hairstylist to Molly Mae and GK Barry, Alicia Dobson, has recommended some easy yet stylish hairstyles for every hair type:

Fine or thin hair: A chin-length bob with subtle layers

If you have fine or thin hair, then a chin-length bob is super easy to style in the morning and looks effortlessly chic. The added layers will help to frame your face and add volume to your finer hair without becoming too bulky.

Thick hair: A long-layered cut with blunt ends

With thick hair, the key is to make your hair feel less heavy and more manageable day-to-day. Adding long layers will help create movement, frame the face, and make your thick hair feel less heavy. By combining simple layers with a blunt chop, you can add shape and definition to your hair without needing to spend lots of extra time styling it.

Curly hair: A choppy, deconstructed cut that enhances natural texture

For those with curly hair, opt for a style that leans into your natural texture. The choppy, deconstructed cut will add definition and volume to your curls while minimising frizz. This modern look will let your natural curls do all the hard work, meaning less time styling for you.

Alicia has also shared how to speak to your stylist about achieving a low-maintenance look without compromising on style:

“As a hairstylist, I always stress the importance of low-maintenance hairstyles. Life is busy, and who wants to spend hours in front of the mirror? By prioritising low maintenance, you can find a style that fits your busy life. Not only does it save time, but it also reduces stress and prevents damage from excessive heat styling.

“When chatting with your hair stylist, be open about your lifestyle and preferences. Explain your daily routine, hair type, and styling habits. Then, together, you can find a cut that’s easy to maintain and style for you. Don’t be afraid to bring reference pictures, and don’t hesitate to discuss any hair concerns. They’ll work with you to create a stylish, practical look that suits your needs.”
