Online searches have almost tripled (180%) in the UK in the past 12 months for ‘how to make a bridal bouquet’ and spiked 50% for ‘autumn wedding flowers’ . 

Ethical jewellery brand, Sacet, has spoken exclusively to gardener, Adam Kirtland, who has shared the best flowers to use for your Autumn/Winter wedding bouquet, along with tips on how to create an arrangement at home.

“Depending on how deep into autumn your wedding will be, depends on the flowers you’ll be able to use. If you’re at the start of autumn, then your summer plants, such as Dahlias, might just still be in flower, but if you’re later in the season, then think about Ammi Visnaga, Nicotiana and Rudbeckia. 

For winter,  the strong centrepiece is likely to be a classic rose, with plenty of white options to go for to give you the perfect winter wedding bouquet.

Foliage will play a larger part in winter, too – a bountiful bouquet will give your guests something to talk about and the foliage will add to the seasonality of your big day. Eucalyptus is a fantastic choice for foliage and adds real depth, whilst Dill ‘Tetra’ is a beautiful soft foliage that’s super easy to grow.’”

Top tips for preparing wedding arrangements 

• “Think about it in an almost 360⁰ way as people will see it as a whole thing, rather than from just the front.”
  
• “Aim to bring the main attraction into the middle, going with the tallest stems and biggest flowers in the middle and think about layers! Your tallest stems and flowers in the middle, a second layer to add substance (grasses are a good choice!) and your third layer should be shorter stems or smaller flowers to finish the whole piece off.”
  
• “Something that can really bring together a dried flower arrangement is the use of hessian string or ribbon. This adds a fantastic rustic look to your bouquet and really brings it together.”
