Autumn/Winter Bag Trends

We may still be in the height of Summer, but it is never to early to start planning ahead for the next season, particularly when it comes to investment pieces. To help you navigate the trends predicted for the upcoming Autumn Winter season, the MyBag team of experts have analysed the data to determine what styles you should be investing in for the new season.

The world of fashion is constantly evolving and adapting, meaning there are always new and exciting trends to try, particularly when it comes to accessories. Fashion trends always have a way of resurfacing, even when you think they were long forgotten. Hence when it comes to new seasonal trends it’s often hard to determine whether a new bag trend is worth investing in.

So, which styles should you be shopping for this Autumn/Winter? With frugality becoming even more fashionable, the expert MyBag buying team, Kirstyn McIntyre and Simone Taylor, along with the help of Google Trends and WGSN reporting, have analysed search data to see which trends are worth investing in and predict how we will be accessorising for A/W23 to provide you with the ultimate style inspiration for your wardrobe refresh.

Autumn/Winter Bag Trends

Denim Accessories

It’s with good reason that denim forms the backbone of our day-to-day style. But denim doesn’t need to end at ready-to-wear! Leading designers, from See By Chloeto Coach,  have decked out some of their key accessories in this laid-back fabric.

Denim bags have come full circle and the new way to accessories with denim is anything but basic! Once reserved for iconic pop-culture moments, the neutrality of a denim bag makes it easier to style than you might think. Plus, with the emerging Y2K trend this year, it’s no surprise denim has resurfaced and been seen across major designer brands with its versatility you can gain from this type of material finish.

Simone says: “A denim wash finish is a trend we’re seeing come through from brands such as Coach and Marc Jacobs. It’s fun, young and casual which is a nice break from the cleaner and more minimal silhouettes we’ve been seeing over the past seasons.”

Diesel

For those that don’t know, get to know. Diesel’s 1DR bag has taken the bag and accessories industry by storm and has become a favourite among celebrities including Kylie Jenner, Miley Cyrus and Megan Thee Stallion. This shoulder bag is a true iconic symbol of the brand’s identity.

Kirstyn says: “A bag trend that isn’t going anywhere is the 1DR bag from Diesel – it comes in a variety of sizes and colour so perfect for any occasion. Also spotted on celebrities and influencers, it’s the IT bag of the season.”

Bridal

The dress (or suit, for that matter) of a bride’s dreams may be the pièce de resistance in their wedding-day wardrobe, but once it’s finally been chosen, the next step is to find an equally occasion-worthy bag.

Since the search demand of bridal bags is up YoY by 18%, many designer brands are widening their collections and introducing bridal exclusives to tap into the wedding market. So, if you or someone you know is planning to head down the aisle in a billowing, floor-skimming creation (with a dramatic veil to match), don’t underestimate the subtle power of a brilliant bridal bag.

Kirstyn says: “It’s an upcoming trend we’re seeing each year with brands such as Shrimps and Vivienne Westwood expanding the collections into both bags and jewellery.

It’s becoming a fun trend to update a traditional wedding with statement pearl earrings or logo bags like the Sophia Webster ‘Wifey for Lifey’ clutch most recently pictured on Sophie Habboo.”

Brights

With major brands bringing colour to their AW23 exclusive collections, it’s no surprise colours such as red (+15% YoY) and green (+22% YoY) have increased in consumer interest according to WGSN.

Whether you consider yourself a minimalist or maximalist, a shot of bold colour will bring a jolt of joy to your wardrobe. For those looking for minimum input with maximum output, get your hands on a Tory Burch’s Bon Bon Spazzolato Leather Mini Bag in coral, orLove Moschino’s zesty-green crossbody bag.

Statement accessories are a year-round trend, but AW23 sees a rainbow of colours. There are pops of orange, yellow, green, blue and so on to lift any outfit and brighten anyone’s day. Brands like ShrimpsCoach, Kate SpadePinkoStine Goya all cover this.”

Metallic

Y2K has taken the fashion industry by storm from clothing to accessories, which is why we’ve seen the demand for metallics come back as a trend rather than diamanté embellishment. The Autumn/Winter 2023 runway saw a lot of magpie styling, with sparkly handbags that resembled disco balls taken out for a spin by the models at Balmain. Meaning, this season’s high-shine trend is a reminder that you might well be carrying the focal point of your look.

With the prominent Y2k trend, it’s only natural to see silver metallic not far behind. Making a statement on SS23 runways, this has now carried through into a lot of AW23 collections due to the continued high demand. With brands such as Vivienne Westwood, DieselCoach and Marc Jacobs all feature metallic range” Kirstyn McIntyre.

However, you prefer to accessorise your outfit during the AW period, it’s always great to know trends are always evolving. Whether you’re looking to revamp your bag collection or need inspiration for your accessories, there are so many bag styles out there to suit your preferences.
